Low E Window Film The Window Film that Does it All

With the growing focus on sustainability and energy efficiency in residential and commercial properties, building owners around the globe are looking for new ways to reduce costs and their carbon footprint.
But what happens in winter when it’s cold? Heat loss through glazing is also a big issue contributing to high energy bills. Is there a film that does it all?

With the growing focus on sustainability and energy efficiency in residential and commercial properties, building owners around the globe are looking for new ways to reduce costs and their carbon footprint.

But what happens in winter when it’s cold? Heat loss through glazing is also a big issue contributing to high energy bills. Is there a film that does it all?

Environmental Window film is one of the most economical ways to reduce a building’s energy consumption. Glazing in a building’s envelope is responsible for 87% of Heat Gain and 49% of Heat Loss 1. Solar Window Film can reject as much as 80% of solar energy which is equal to the highest-performing glass 2. In hot climates/ seasons, this protects from extreme heat, and UV rays while helping to reduce cooling costs. Solar window film acts like a shading device. It works only when the sun is shining on the glass and therefore is ideal for east and west orientations that get blasted by summer sun. In Cold Climate Zones like Melbourne we use our heaters much more than we use our air conditioners. Sustainability Victoria recommends that to minimize energy consumption we turn our heaters on when the temperature drops below 19 degrees Celsius (approx. 26 weeks a year in Melbourne).

Low E Window Film can improve the winter insulating performance of a clear, single window pane by up to 92% equivalent to a base level double glazed unit (support data available from WFAANZ). 2

Low E Window Film – The Window Film That Does it all.

With untreated, plain glass windows, warmth is lost during winter because objects within a room are warmer than the temperature outside. These objects will radiate heat towards the cooler outdoors, and that heat will escape through the glass.

The application of a Low E Film helps prevent heat transmission through the glass and instead reflects much of the heat back into the room.

Low E (low-emissivity) window film is a thin, transparent layer that is applied to the inside surface of a window to reduce the amount of heat and UV radiation that passes through it. The film is designed to improve the energy efficiency of windows by reflecting heat back into the room. Low E window Film also keep up to 45% of solar heat out in summer making it a year round window film that works 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Low E Films improve a building’s energy efficiency in all climates and across all seasons.

Benefits of Low E Window Films

  • Improved Comfort – Provides for more comfortable temperatures all year round.
  • Energy Savings – The dual heat rejection and reflection properties reduce energy costs in summer and winter.
  • Natural Day Light – Allows as much as 70% of visible light transmission with minimal heat, giving a clear view while preventing heat spots.
  • Glare Reduction – Reduces glare on monitors and TV making the homes and works place more comfortable.
  • UV Protection – Blocking up to 99% of ultraviolet rays, protecting both you and your furnishings from UV damage 3.
  • Insulation Improvements – Installed onto existing glass Low E films can improve the summer and winter insulation ability of windows. Similar to double glazing but at a quarter of the price.

You could spend tens of thousands of dollars on new double-glazed windows; or achieve comparable results at a fraction of the cost by applying a Low E window tinting film to your home or office windows.
